Rockstar starts paid social ads for the GTA VI Netflix special
Rockstar Games began paying for ads on X yesterday for "Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look", with Facebook and Instagram ads also running. Netflix has its own reminder campaign ahead of the August 27 premiere.

Rockstar Games started running paid ads on X yesterday, August 19, for Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look, the special coming to Netflix. GTAVice.net reported the campaign and credits the tip to @FriendlyAaron1. The outlet adds that a set of ads for the same special has recently appeared on Facebook and Instagram as well.

Netflix is promoting the special on its side too. Its own post on X gives the slot: Thursday, August 27, at 12PM PT, 3PM ET. That is one week from today.

The streaming service is also using so-called dark posts on X. These don't show up on Netflix's own timeline, and according to GTAVice.net they were first aimed at an American audience. Liking one signs you up for a reminder. Within a minute or two Netflix replies to say it will let you know when it's time to watch, and that you can opt out by replying #unsubscribe.
The ads are running while the leak situation around the game is still ongoing. iGrandTheftAuto reads this as Rockstar ignoring the leaks and pressing ahead with the official premiere. That is the outlet's interpretation, not something Rockstar has said.
The special premieres on Netflix on Thursday, August 27, at 12PM PT / 3PM ET.
