Trailers
Rockstar has released six official Grand Theft Auto VI videos, from the December 2023 reveal, set in Vice City, to the 26-minute Extended Look and the October 2026 Launch Trailer.
Rockstar has put out six official Grand Theft Auto VI videos so far.
Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 1 (4 December 2023)
The first trailer is 1:30 long and went up on YouTube on the evening of 4 December 2023, US time, hours ahead of the planned premiere on Tuesday 5 December, which is the date on Rockstar's Newswire post. The video had leaked on X, and Rockstar posted "Our trailer has leaked so please watch the real thing on YouTube."
The trailer revealed the title, the protagonists and the Vice City setting. The game is set in the state of Leonida, home to the "neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond" in Rockstar's words, and it was announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for 2025. That date has since been moved twice.
The song is "Love Is a Long Road" by Tom Petty, written by Thomas Earl Petty and Michael W. Campbell, credited in the YouTube description as courtesy of Universal Music Enterprises.
The video drew 90,421,491 views in 24 hours as of 5 December 2023, a Guinness World Record for a videogame reveal on YouTube. It also holds the record as the most liked videogame trailer in 24 hours, with 8.9 million likes. It was the most viewed non-music video in a day as well, and MrBeast's previous mark stood at 59.4 million. The overall 24-hour record, music included, stayed with BTS's "Butter" at 108 million.
Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 (6 May 2025)
Trailer 2 runs 2:47 and arrived on 6 May 2025, four days after Rockstar announced the delay from 2025 to 26 May 2026. That date later slipped again, to 19 November 2026.
Rockstar's description introduces Jason and Lucia, who end up in a criminal conspiracy across Leonida after an easy score goes wrong, and who have to rely on each other to get out alive. The whole video was captured in-game on PlayStation 5, in equal parts gameplay and cutscenes. The official site was updated at the same time with about 70 screenshots and character and location profiles. The opening nods to the 2022 leaks: Jason says he is "just fixing some leaks".
The main song is "Hot Together" by The Pointer Sisters. A montage of Jason driving around Leonida also has car-radio snippets from Wang Chung, Zenglen and Tammy Wynette.
Rockstar says the trailer passed 475 million views across all platforms in its first 24 hours. That is a cross-platform total, not a YouTube count, and it compares with the 365 million first-day views of the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer. The video later won Best Game Trailer at the Golden Joystick Awards on 20 November 2025.
Grand Theft Auto VI: Official Cover Art Reveal (18 June 2026)
A 33-second video that shows the official cover art and announces that pre-orders open on 25 June 2026. There is no song credit. The artwork is a collage of scenes with Jason and Lucia, Boobie Ike, Raul Bautista, a gator and a flamingo over a speedboat.
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look Coming August 27 (6 August 2026)
This 25-second teaser, posted on 6 August 2026, did one job: it gave the schedule. An Extended Look would premiere on Netflix on Thursday 27 August at 3 p.m. ET, then reach YouTube and the GTA VI site at 9 p.m. ET.
Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look (27 August 2026)
By far the longest video of the lot, at 26:48. Rockstar says it is a film made entirely from in-game footage captured on PlayStation 5. It played on Netflix first, then on YouTube and the official site six hours later.
Where the trailers teased, this one follows jobs:
- a drug pickup for Boobie Ike
- a police bust
- a dinner job from Brian Heder
- getaway driving for Raul Bautista
- a party for a Spanish-language TV network that armed men interrupt
It ends with Cal Hampton.
Rockstar gave no tracklist for the film. A dozen songs have been identified in it, from "Pop Bottles" by Birdman and Lil Wayne to "Against All Odds (Take a Look at Me Now)" by Phil Collins. Depeche Mode's "People Are People" is among them.
On Netflix it debuted at No. 1 with 31.1 million views in the first four days, and it topped the English-language film chart in 87 of 93 countries. Demand caused technical problems on Netflix and Twitch during the premiere, and reaction livestreams reached 3.9 million viewers across about 9,000 streamers.
IGN reported that Rockstar released a censored version for China, with dancing and drug- and sex-related content removed. As for the reception, critics praised the visuals and lighting, while PC Gamer found the missions derivative. Some fans disliked the Netflix exclusivity window.
Grand Theft Auto VI Launch Trailer (15 October 2026)
The Launch Trailer came out on 15 October 2026, runs 1:30 and was again captured entirely in-game on PlayStation 5. It debuted "Flower in a Hurricane" by Justice, featuring Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, and it revealed Justice as the composers of the original score.
It is a medley of new scenes that focuses mostly on conveying the game's feel, not on gameplay mechanics. The earlier trailers used older licensed songs, while this one has a single new original track.
