GTA VI's animals: more than 170 species, says GamesRadar+
GamesRadar+ says Grand Theft Auto VI will have more than 170 animal species. It is a roundup of trailers, previews and the Extended Look, not a new Rockstar announcement.

GamesRadar+ says, in a roundup of trailers, screenshots, previews and the Extended Look, that Grand Theft Auto VI will have more than 170 animal species, including over 60 types of bird and more than 30 land mammals, plus reptiles, fish and more.
The mix is meant to reflect real Florida: native wildlife alongside invasive species such as the cane toad and green iguana. Movement animations follow significant research.
Species spotted so far in trailers, screenshots and previews are the alligator, bald eagle, bear, cougar, manatee, flamingo, raccoon, rhesus macaque, nine-banded armadillo, whooping crane, dolphin, shark and whale.

Rockstar has confirmed Rare, Discoverable and Legendary animals that can be tracked, as in the Red Dead series. It has given no further details because it wants players to discover them.

In the Extended Look, Jason can Praise a dog from a distance, then Scold or Pet it up close. There is also a Study option that adds an animal to a compendium, similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.

On the visual side there are iridescence, bioluminescence, translucency, different feather types, and new hair and fur systems with colour variations, wet-look changes and dirt matting. As a player who has watched GTA wildlife go from pigeons to this, I find wet fur and glowing sea life a welcome sign of where Rockstar's attention is going.
One caveat: GamesRadar+ thinks rewards for filling the compendium are "likely", but that is its own guess, not something Rockstar has said.
