Weapons
Vice City took a huge step forward in the weapons department too compared to GTA3. A huge arsenal got into the game, and every one of them is based on a real model. The real change is the "class system": from each type, from each given category, Tommy can only have one weapon. If you pick up a weapon whose "buddy" you already have, the old weapon disappears – and it's unpleasant to go looking for the old one if the new buddy doesn't work out. The ammo of most firearms is compatible with each other – this means if you run into a submachine gun, its bullets get transferred to you. I'll mention this option for every class.
Special
Only a single item goes here, at one of the film studio missions, and that is the camera.
Hand weapons
Tommy learned a few new moves and choreography in the slammer, so fistfights are now sprinkled with spectacular kicks.
Fist
The hand is always at hand.
Brass knuckles
A new element, and a very good one, since you can hit a lot harder with it. It's good to have one on your hand.
- Ocean Beach, behind the Ocean View hotel
- The Malibu bouncers use them
Melee weapons
Besides the baseball bat you know from GTA3, plenty of tools help with quieter killing. That's exactly why cute little tool shops have appeared in the city next to the gun shops.
Screwdriver
We won't be screwing anything with it in the game (maybe in GTA4), but in the right hands this "nothing" can become a fearsome tool. Needless to say, if you offer it to someone with force, it hurts.
- Tooled Up, North Point Mall – 10$
- Bunch of Tools, Vice Point – 10$
- Screw This, Little Havana – 10$
Golf club
We don't get to play golf in Vice City yet (maybe in Stories), here the golf club serves the same purpose as its buddies: getting by. If you beat your enemy to death with it, it hurts, though he doesn't feel any of it anymore…
- To the right after the entrance of the Leaf Links Golf Club
- At the golfers…
- If you get into a golf cart, you get a beauty
Hammer
In the right hands it's a deadly tool, and the saying fits: "hit the nail on the head" (literally: "hit a nail into his head")…
- Tooled Up, North Point Mall – 20$
- Bunch of Tools, Vice Point – 20$
- Screw This, Little Havana – 20$
Nightstick
It's part of the cops' equipment, hits pretty hard, and is also good for defense.
- Washington Beach, police station (to the left, in the locker room)
- At the cops
Baseball bat
I don't need to introduce him to anyone, and it's exactly the same as in GTA3: it hits nicely!
- Bunch of Tools, Vice Point – 80$
- Ocean Beach, behind the Ocean View hotel
Knife
MasterChief, the master chef (yes, the cheekily borrowed "quote" from Halo) can boldly slice meat with it – be it human or anything else.
- Tooled Up, North Point Mall – 90$
- In the upper office of the Malibu
- Ocean Beach, behind the Maison Wenifall (the southeastern part of the island, southeast of the Pole Position)
Cleaver
Whoever got a taste for learning the culinary arts now has another opportunity. Though we won't use this for its intended purpose either…
- Tooled Up, North Point Mall – 50$
- Bunch of Tools, Vice Point – 50$
- Screw This, Little Havana – 50$
- Vice Point, behind the "Well-Stacked" pizzeria
Machete
This weapon is part of the game's amazing atmosphere too. Chasing screaming chicks with it – now that has atmosphere…
- Bunch of Tools, Vice Point – 100$
- Screw This, Little Havana – 100$
- On the south side of the bridge leading to Starfish Island, under the little arch
- At the Pole Position's mixer
Katana
The uncrowned king of Japanese martial arts is at your disposal in person too. Use it often, along with the chainsaw it was a real favorite of mine, since with a few swings it can send anyone into oblivion.
- Tooled Up, North Point Mall – 300$
- Starfish Island, in the garage of the house west of the Diaz mansion
- North Point Mall, café
Chainsaw
You don't have to chop wood with it here, but people, yes, that's advisable. There's no person who could resist it…
- At your hideout, after finding 20 secret packages
- Screw This, Little Havana – 500$
- In the bathroom of apartment 3C in the building across from the Pay'n'Spray
Explosives
There's not too much choice, but everyone finds the buddy that suits them. There are two buddies here that already appeared in GTA3, there's a crowd disperser, and there's a devilish trap… What they have in common is that the longer you hold down the left mouse button, the farther Tommy throws them.
Grenade
The good old fragmentation grenade, effective, just be careful it doesn't bounce back to the sender!
- Ammu-Nation, Vice Point – 300$
- South of the bank in Little Havana, on the basketball court
Tear gas grenade
A crowd disperser, it's hardly used for anything else, but it has its own charm… (Attention! This weapon is only found in the PS2 version, or in the PC version after fiddling with the main.scm file, but then you have to start a new game!)
- Washington Beach, police station, in the parking lot
Molotov cocktail
The fiery bottle couldn't be left out, throw it far if Tommy isn't fireproof. If you've already completed the fireproof mission series, you can even drop it at your feet, causing big surprises…
- On the terrace of the Tacopalypse shop (east of Hyman Condo)
Remote bomb
It's a grenade too, but when you throw it, a remote control ends up in your hand. You can even use it for escaping: you drop it at your feet, run away at the right time, and then boom…
- At Phil's place, 1000$
- Vice Point, on the road leading down from the golf island go straight until you run into a big building. Go up the ramp, and get around the back.
Pistols
Only two handguns belong here, and there's no doubt the second one is the more exciting and better choice. The caliber is different, so the ammo you find only works for the given weapon.
Colt .45
This was the pistol in GTA3 too. Relatively fast, fairly weak damage, its magazine holds (as far as I remember) 7 bullets. It takes 2-3 accurate hits to take someone down.
- Ammu-Nation, Vice Point, 100$
- Ammu-Nation, Ocean Beach, 100$
- The cops' basic weapon
- Vice Point, the construction site where you met Avery, in the NE part of the future house
.357 Colt Python
A pleasant buddy, it's slow, but one shot usually wrecks a person (if he's wearing a bulletproof vest, it takes two).
- At your hideout, after finding 30 secret packages
- In the lower room of the Vercetti mansion, after the "Rub Out" mission
- Ammu-Nation, Downtown, 2000$
Rifles
In GTA3 the first, plain standard rifle was "the rifle", and it counted as a melee weapon, since the range was short, though the power was great. Here we can already choose from three friends. The caliber is the same, so you can use it for all three monsters.
Shotgun
This was in GTA3 too. One shot is needed to lay a person out, two to silence him for sure. Because of its favorable price and power, it'll be many people's favorite…
- Ammu-Nation, Ocean Beach, 500$
- In police cars, with five shells
- On the border of Vice Point and Ocean Beach, at the bend after the row of hotels go down to the concrete promenade, the weapon will be behind one of the benches
- Washington Beach, on top of the parking garage, next to the ramp
Stubby Shotgun
A strong shotgun, for close combat!
- Ammu-Nation, Vice Point, 600$
- At the junkyard, behind the hangar where Lance was taken to be tortured
S.P.A.S. 12
Thanks to the automatic "burst fire" you only have to slap the fire button, so it keeps spraying blessings, and its range is awesome too, one bullet can send even a person into oblivion, a huge favorite!
- Ammu-Nation, Downtown, 4000$
- Escobar International Airport, behind the "Vice City Surfing" billboard
Submachine guns
All the submachine guns in the game use the same bullet, so the ammo you find can be used in all 4 devices. An interesting thing is that this is the class with which you can shoot while leaning out of a car. With the first two you can also shoot while running (not sprinting).
TEC-9
Whoever has watched American films where gang wars were the main theme has surely often come across this weapon. One of the most famous (and most infamous) weapons in the USA, it is very popular among black people. In the game it's the weakest model of its kind, it has a big spread, but its power is small. You won't use it too often, though in a little gang war, say against the Haitians, it can still come in handy…
- Washington Beach, if you head toward the construction site and keep going straight, you end up in a small dead end with a circular track. Go right, and behind the northern row of houses you'll find the weapon.
Ingram MAC M10
In the game this submachine gun is much stronger than the TEC-9, it's fast, and its bullets are stronger too. It's pleasant to use a weapon like this, though there is a stronger one, shooting while running can still come in handy…
- Ammu-Nation, Ocean Beach, 300$
- Viceport, take the four-lane road south, where the road splits, go to the end, to the right, the stuff is behind the wooden fence
Uzi 9mm
This submachine gun is very popular in the game, since you can find it in loads of places. The members of the Vercetti gang use it too at the end of the game (the girls in bikinis run around with M4s...), and it's relatively cheap, so you can get hold of it pretty quickly. Fast, accurate, strong: a real submachine gun!
- Ammu-Nation, Vice Point, $400
- Ocean Beach, behind the Pay'n'Spray
- Downtown, under the stairs of one of the downtown hideouts, next to the bar
- Prawn Island, on the porch of the northernmost blue house
MP5
The strongest submachine gun in the game. It's expensive, but if you get it, it can be a faithful companion, since it's fast, strong, and very accurate. In the game the FBI uses this weapon too. No wonder, since they use this weapon in the USA as well.
- Ammu-Nation, Downtown, $3000
- From the FBI agents
Assault rifles
We meet two huge weapons in the game, and both are an exciting choice. The caliber is the same. I should also mention that the first successful representative of this class (assault rifles) was the wonder that is the Kalashnikov AK-47.
Kruger
This weapon is a clone of the much-famed M14. You can aim with it, it's fast, and a very deadly weapon, I can only recommend it for sure!
- Ammu-Nation, Ocean Beach, $1000
- Vice Point, on top of the El Swanko Casa
M4
A deadly weapon! It's fitted with a scope, it's accurate, and even a single bullet does huge damage. A real killing machine!
- Ammu-Nation, Downtown, $5000
- Opposite Auntie Poulet's house, in the yard
- Behind the house west of the Cafe Robina
- Starfish Island, in the Vercetti mansion
Heavy weapons
The weapons in this class are so heavy that you can neither run nor jump with them, but then they aren't made for that...
Flamethrower
Besides the Molotov, it's the only effective weapon against the tank. It burns everything to dust in no time.
- At Phil's place, $8000
- Starfish Island, in the pool shaped like the R* logo
- At your hideout, after 40 hidden packages
Rocket launcher
The deadliest weapon in the game, but you shouldn't use it in close combat. Its rocket blows up everything except a tank, so it can be a useful companion when fleeing from the cops too...
- At your hideout, after 70 hidden packages
- Little Havana, in the pool of the Holiday Inn Express
- At Phil's place, $8000
M60
My personal favorite. A weapon fitted with a scope, strong enough, it takes down police helicopters too. I can only recommend it!
- At Phil's place, $8000
- Fort Baxter base, in the right-hand watchtower
Minigun
Even a single bullet is quite deadly, but since it's brutally fast, it's a real killing machine. In a few seconds you can blow up a whole line of cars waiting at a red light. One of the strongest (and most popular) weapons in the game, which sends everyone and everything into oblivion...
- At Phil's place, $10000
- At your hideout, after 60 hidden packages
- Little Haiti, where the "Trojan Voodoo" mission took place, on top of the blown-up plant
Sniper rifles
This class can be a big favorite of a real psychopath, since from far away, once you've locked onto a target, a single shot can make your chosen victim history. The two models in the game don't use the same ammo.
Sniper rifle
In the game it can only fire a single shot, so it's a bit slow, but Tommy's weapon test (firing range) can help with that (and with the rocket launcher too). Deadly, fitted with a scope (obviously), recommended.
- Ammu-Nation, Vice Point, $1500
- Starfish Island, in the hedge maze next to the Diaz-Vercetti mansion
- Little Havana, behind the southern gate tower of the southern bridge
PSG-1
A model with a laser sight that allows 8 shots. A more exciting choice than its predecessor.
- Ammu-Nation, Downtown, $6000
- At your hideout, after 50 hidden packages
- Little Havana, go into the yard of the building next to the Umberto Cafe, up the stairs, to the east, behind the Kaufman Cab sign
