GTA VI turns the Scooter Brothers meme into a car-summoning app
A new Edge preview confirms an in-game app called Scooter Brothers that delivers your car. The same preview says the map opens up early, with Leonida not locked behind the story.

The Scooter Brothers meme has made it into Grand Theft Auto VI: a new Edge magazine preview confirms an in-game app of that name that brings your vehicle to you, as IGN reports.
The way it works: an NPC brings your car to you, then rides off on a scooter. IGN assumes the scooter rider is another "brother". Whether these NPCs have their own jokey lines is not known.
It isn't instant or free, either. According to GameSpot's summary of the cover story, the delivery costs a small fee and the driver leaves on a compact scooter kept in the trunk. Since the car doesn't appear instantly, there is no time to call a ride in the middle of a robbery: the getaway car has to be close by already. Stealing one off the street has its own catches. The driver may fight back, the car may carry a tracker or be low on fuel, though Rockstar calls refueling a quick detour.
IGN adds that your weapons and some other gear are stored in the trunk, so it reckons cars likely won't be as disposable as in previous games. That's IGN's inference, not a Rockstar statement.
The name goes back to 2008. Brad Simons of the FourPlayerPodcast Justin.tv channel was riding a moped around Liberty City in GTA IV and called another moped rider "scooter brothers". The YouTube video has over 7.5 million views. Rockstar has winked at it before, too: in GTA V, switching to Trevor could catch him recreating the meme with a terrified NPC.
This time it's an actual mechanic. According to IGN, it is the first time GTA single-player lets you summon a vehicle without cheats. GTA Online has had a call-your-car feature since launch.
The same Edge preview, relayed by the podcast GTA VI O'Clock and picked up by IGN, says Rockstar reportedly confirmed the map will open up relatively early. The state of Leonida is not locked behind story progression.
IGN points out the difference between the older games. GTA IV kept parts of Liberty City behind police blockades until you advanced the story, while GTA V let you go anywhere once the tutorials were done. GTA VI seems closer to GTA V on this.
I like that the car finally seems to matter. If my guns live in the trunk, I'll think twice before dumping it in a canal.
