GamesRadar+ calls GTA VI RPG-lite, and Rockstar hasn't
A GamesRadar+ opinion piece reads Edge's GTA VI details as RPG territory. The label is the writer's, but the Jason and Lucia quotes behind it are Rockstar's.

Jason and Lucia don't have to be a couple. That's the detail dragging GTA VI into an RPG argument.
Rockstar's Rob Nelson told Edge the pair start the game as exes who want to give things another shot, and that "as the game progresses, it's yours to keep or yours to lose." Per the Edge feature, they can also end up as allies instead of lovers, and you can break them up if you feel like it. We already covered the four-point relationship scale from the same feature.
GamesRadar+ writer Jasmine Gould-Wilson takes that and runs: GTA VI sounds like an RPG. Her case is choice and consequence, lifestyle sim elements, and a relationship system that includes video-gamified social media. She lands on "RPG-lite". That's her opinion, not a Rockstar statement, and nothing in the Edge details mentions character leveling or skill trees.
Still, I get why the comparison lands. Rockstar itself pointed to a Skyrim-like sense of discovery: "You can go anywhere, [to] any random location." Free roaming, plus a relationship that can actually go sideways because of what you do? That's more than a love story you watch from the passenger seat.
Me, I'm still not rolling for initiative.
