First GTA VI trailer coming in December

Rockstar Games announced today that it will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto in early December.

The news came in a Rockstar Newswire post from company president Sam Houser. He tied it to an anniversary: next month Rockstar Games turns 25, having been founded in 1998. Houser's statement reads in part:

We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto.

It didn't land completely out of the blue. The night before, Jason Schreier had reported at Bloomberg that the trailer was planned for early December. So a rumor just turned into fact.

What we know, and what we don't

The trailer is coming in early December. That's the confirmed part. The exact day, the time and the place of the debut are not. Shacknews points out that The Game Awards on December 7th could count as early December, and TechRadar mentions some people theorizing about the Golden Joystick Awards. That's guesswork for now, and Rockstar hasn't said a word about it.

The game's title hasn't been spoken either. Rockstar still calls it only the next Grand Theft Auto, so the name Grand Theft Auto VI isn't official yet. The previous game, GTA V, came out in 2013, so a sign of life is long overdue.

There's nothing in the announcement about a release date, platforms or anything else, so the waiting goes on. The old-timers know Rockstar and deadlines have a complicated relationship, but at least we have a trailer window now.

Where do you think it will premiere? Let us know! ;)
