Liberty City
GTA IV's New York: five boroughs and a few smaller islands.
GTA IV's Liberty City is a 2008 copy of New York, much closer to the real city than GTA III's. Its boroughs are joined by bridges, tunnels and the subway. At the start of the game the bridges are closed because of a terror alert, so Niko can only move around Broker and Dukes at first.

Broker: The Brooklyn of the game. Niko arrives here on the cargo ship Platypus and stays with his cousin Roman in Hove Beach, the Russian neighbourhood. The amusement park on Firefly Island is modelled on Coney Island.
Dukes: The copy of Queens. Francis International Airport and Meadows Park are here.
Bohan: The Bronx of the game, a run-down, poor borough in the north of the city.
Algonquin: The copy of Manhattan, the city's business and nightlife district. Star Junction (Times Square), Middle Park (Central Park) and the Rotterdam Tower (Empire State Building) are here.
Alderney: New Jersey across the river, a separate state in the game too. The Alderney State Correctional Facility stands here.
Smaller islands: The Statue of Happiness, the parody of the Statue of Liberty, stands on Happiness Island. Colony Island and Charge Island lie between Algonquin and Dukes.
