The first public SA-MP beta took place over the weekend, and luckily it wrapped up without any major hiccups. The servers performed well, handling 300 players in total at peak time, with up to 50 on some individual servers.
Less than a month has passed since the very first version of GTA Rumble saw the light of day, and the developers, riding a wave of enthusiasm, are already past the third. If this enthusiasm doesn't vanish into thin air, as it has already happened to others so many times, they could end up with quite a nice user base, but for that they'll have to show something unique that makes it worth installing.
This is my umpteenth attempt at publishing this post, but the mysterious self-modifications of the system kept getting in the way. So, as you can easily tell from the title, this is about one of the most anticipated projects of the MTA team: the multiplayer mode for San Andreas.
Alongside the mass-produced vehicles, mods that cater to other needs are starting to appear. For now I can only report on two weapon packs, but more add-ons will most likely be out in the near future.
I came across a sad notice when I visited the San Andreas Multiplayer site, hoping for some news. The news was unexpected, and sad: kyeman, the project's leader, is unable to continue his work and has left the team.
New developments are exploding out of the sa-mp team at an ever faster pace. Not long ago they released the open source version of VC-MP as 0.1c, and yesterday came 0.1d, which, besides bugfixes, supports running complete modifications.
The fixed version promised for the weekend was uploaded to the official site a few hours ago. They managed to fix a few bugs and extend the program with some convenience features, but there are still quite a few problems left to tick off the list.
We've been feasting on the first public alpha for more than a week now, which was enough time for me to make up my mind: I'm leaving MTA to its own devices and going all in on VC-MP, and lamase is starting up a server for your enjoyment.
Rockstar has stirred the game's first v1.01 patch into their home-brewed iced coffee. It weighs in at 11 megs and fixes quite a few problems in the game, on top of any "steamy" assassination attempts. Here is the translated list of the important fixes:
Next weekend the servers will be fired up again for one last test before the first version is released. Until then, everyone who wants to jump in should install a clean Vice City, and GTA LC on a separate one.
The LVS Team already had a go at combining GTA III and Vice City once, but they decided to wait for San Andreas instead and link the three cities together in that.
