GTA IV Radio Ads

I came across something interesting while browsing: an audio file that is claimed to come from one of the radio stations in the newest Grand Theft Auto. Judging by how serious the ads are, that claim could easily turn out to be true...

In this ad block from Rock Chix radio we can listen to 3 spots: a store's Christmas ad, a company trafficking in Eastern European women, and a testimonial promoting a summer camp.

While listening to the ads, quite a few familiar tunes caught my ear. First I noticed a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, then The Offspring's hit "Hit That" distracted me from the lyrics. In the next ad we can hear a bit of Yellowcard's "Ocean Avenue", and then a part of Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out" as well. To whet your appetite, I'll also mention a few more well-known names, like the Beastie Boys, New Found Glory or Incubus.

I like quite a few of the bands mentioned above, and I know that these songs came out at the end of 2004 and the beginning of 2005. So if we combine that fact with the Christmas ad (and of course with the recording being real), we can say with fairly good certainty that GTA IV will be set in the last quarter of 2005.

I think that's enough of an intro, go and listen to it! :)
