- Not long ago, the biggest foreign gaming magazines got to test the latest GTA, Chinatown Wars, and a lot of new information has come out of those previews. Let's start with the details: - Even though the game is coming out on the Nintendo DS, the radio stations are still part of the package, although nobody should expect proper tracks because of the console's limitations. The music will be present in "instrumental" form, without vocals and links. - Liberty City looks gorgeous, both compared to GTA IV and on its own. The city is worked out in detail, and the districts, buildings, streets and billboards closely resemble the metropolis of Grand Theft Auto IV - except for Alderney. According to the developers, Alderney was more the island of the Italian mafia in GTA IV, which wouldn't really fit the story of Chinatown Wars. - The manager of the Chinese restaurant called "Sum Yung Gai" (which, by the way, is a parody of the English phrase "Some Young Guy" :P), who is also the uncle of the main character, Huang Lee, will give us missions at the start of the game. - As in GTA IV, here too we'll be able to use the fire escapes on tall buildings, so we can get up onto the rooftops. This feature will surely come in handy in the sniper missions. - We already knew that, to replace the menu and the phone, the developers came up with a PDA for Chinatown Wars. The handheld computer can do a huge number of things; among others, starting multiplayer is also done through the PDA, with a separate menu item. Besides that, the radar, the settings and the mission instructions are available on it, and we can also check the name of the gang ruling a given area and the local drug prices. Sending and receiving e-mails will be possible on the PDA too. - In the drug dealing "mini game" we can buy and sell several kinds of drugs, such as heroin, cocaine, ecstasy and marijuana. During drug deals, though, we have to be careful, because 100 hidden cameras are scattered around Liberty City, and they can even get us busted. There's a side mission connected to this: (I guess you figured it out...) you have to shoot all 100 of them! - The wanted system has gained a new meaning in Chinatown Wars. The stars we collect can be shaken off by taking out the police cars in the area. The number of remaining police units will be shown under the stars. Once we've taken out every unit, we have to escape from the scene until the stars disappear. - According to the testers' experience, Huang can only sit in the helicopter as a passenger and can't fly it. There has been no more precise confirmation or denial of this from Rockstar. - Besides cars, the vehicles will include helicopters, motorbikes, boats, and even a Jet Ski. Every vehicle has its own controls. - Besides the built-in GPS (which, by the way, can be switched off in the menu), we can also call a taxi using the microphone. - The indispensable Unique Stunt Jumps will also be present in Chinatown Wars. Some of them even involve crashing through a billboard. - An interesting feature has also made it into the game. If you start off in a vehicle with spinning wheels (using the handbrake), you can even leave a trail of flames behind you, which can be useful for taking out pursuers or pedestrians. - You can also save favourite locations through the radar, so if we find something interesting, we can easily return there later.
